She is pretty and talented - sweet sixteen and never been kissed. He is seventeen; gorgeous and on the brink of a bright future. And now they have fallen in love. But... they are brother and sister.
Seventeen-year-old Lochan and sixteen-year-old Maya have always felt more like friends than siblings. Together they have stepped in for their alcoholic, wayward mother to take care of their three younger siblings. As defacto parents to the little ones, Lochan and Maya have had to grow up fast. And the stress of their lives—and the way they understand each other so completely—has also also brought them closer than two siblings would ordinarily be. So close, in fact, that they have fallen in love. Their clandestine romance quickly blooms into deep, desperate love. They know their relationship is wrong and cannot possibly continue. And yet, they cannot stop what feels so incredibly right. As the novel careens toward an explosive and shocking finale, only one thing is certain: a love this devastating has no happy ending.
I can't believe the ending of this book. I died a little, like if you haven't read this book because you think reading about incest is bad then I strongly encourage you to open your mind to this book, please! JUST THIS BOOK! It made me cry so hard I thought I died. I loved this masterpiece of a lovely read. I loved it sooooo much. It is heart retching and so strongly filled with electric feelings.
People believe that this subject is gross and weird but Tabitha Suzuma made it ok to read. I have to include that fact that she made Maya and Lochan so loveable and the whole time I just wanted to be there for them, through all of the hardship they went through. I would hate to have to deal with those other siblings just because they would drag me to insanity. I will admit that Lochan and Maya are the strongest teenagers I have ever read about. So yes I very much approve of this book. I love it with all my heart.
*SPOILERS*
You may stop reading my review now because I am about to get into some MAJOR spoilers. So if a non-read person were to read this, it just might BLOW THEIR MIND. But it would also ruin the whole story for them. SO GOODBYE AND GO READ THE BOOK!
Ok, now onto the spoilers.
So the ending broke my heart in half. Suzuma definitely knew what she was doing. However this ending satisfied me in a way. I mean of course once the cops got involved it was going to be difficult for Maya and Lochan to do anything together and they're the main characters so I can understand. But did Lochan really have to kill himself? Did that really make it all better? Of course it didn't but I understand even if I don't agree with what happened. So also I would like a sequel to be honest. BUT, I would love it if it weren't from Maya's point of view. I would like a book from Kit's point of view. I mean he was the one who called their mother who came home to find his siblings in bed together, which caused the cops to be called. I would really appreciate learning how Kit gets along with the rest of his life, knowing that he is responsible for Lochan killing himself, I mean come on! I need that closure, surely an author cant leave me hanging. So ok, I am done with my review but I will never be done loving this dysfunctional family that struggled all the way through this lovely novel.
