Obsidian

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something... unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don't kill him first, that is.

Dear Person Reading My Review,
This book has been compared to the Twilight Series a bunch of times, however I don't think it deserves that kind of mind set. I can compare it to the other series but I refuse to, how can it be its own series if we keep thinking its exactly the same? So in my review I am only reviewing this book, not how it relates to the Twilight Saga.
I really liked this book, even if the cover looks like a book my mom would read (Fabio should come to mind), but the inside tells a whole different story. I really liked how the main character didn't deal with any of the crap that Daemon threw at her. Like if someone was like that to me I would definitely kick his butt! She is strong for a type of character that she is portrayed to be. Some people call this a type of abusive relationship, but I will point this out, she has stormed off and said mean things back to him. Never once has she just stood there like a moron accepting his rudeness. AND she also calls him out and tells him he is being a huge douche. I really like the chemistry between the characters and I love how she is not just attached to him, she is BEST FRIENDS with his sister so I give her more credit than others have. The only reason why she drove out to the woods was to save Daemons sister. She technically saved all of them. So I appreciate her spunk and honor and courage. This, is my hones review.

Pretty Girl-13

Pretty Girl-13 is a disturbing and powerful psychological thriller about a girl who must piece together the story of her kidnapping and captivity and then piece together her own identity.

When thirteen-year-old Angela Gracie Chapman looks in the mirror, someone else looks back--a thin, pale stranger, a sixteen-year-old with haunted eyes. Angie has no memory of the past three years, years in which she was lost to the authorities, lost to her family and friends, lost even to herself. Where has she been, who has been living her life, and what is hiding behind the terrible blankness? There are secrets you can’t even tell yourself.

With a tremendous amount of courage and support from unexpected friends, Angie embarks on a journey into the darkest corners of her mind. As she unearths more and more about her past, she discovers a terrifying secret and must decide: when you remember things you wish you could forget, do you destroy the people responsible, or is there another way to feel whole again?

Liz Coley’s alarming and fascinating psychological mystery is a disturbing—and ultimately empowering—page turner about accepting our whole selves, and the healing power of courage, hope, and love.

So here is my honest review, for anybody to enjoy.

Dear Person Reading My Review,
Pretty Girl-13 might be about a thirteen, going on sixteen Angela Chapman who was kidnapped during a girl scouts camping trip, but to be honest, it didn't seem like it was about a thirteen year old girl trapped in a sixteen year old body. It sounded more or less like a teenager who refused to want to go back into her past. Sure, she reminisced about her old friends and how she swore she was just at the camp ground but I cant believe her that she didn't remember ANYTHING. Like she started to remember that she was kidnapped but the author just showed us and never gave any light to it. I can believe the memory block, but once things started popping up all over the place shouldn't she at least tell somebody instead of the audience? There were many details and subjects brought up but never really explained and that bothered me a bit. However the details that were explained fit so well together and made me want to keep reading. This book was one of those that you refuse to put down until you find out what happens next. I read this novel within a 24 hour window. I absolutely loved how fast paced it was and how enjoyable the writing was. Again it had its problems with me but I think this book deserves a little hype. I haven't really heard anybody talk about it and I believe this to be unfair. It was a good book overall and I would highly recommend it in the months where the leaves are falling and the spooks are rising. This, is my most honest review.
